The Pond itself, as far as we are aware is one of the best purpose built model yacht ponds in the United Kingdom. It was built in 1928 along with the yacht pavilion to sail the large vane type pond yachts that were around at that time.
As time has gone by radio control has replaced much of that, however, there are still many families on a Sunday with the free sailing type yachts to be seen going from one side of the pond to the other.
The dimensions of the pond are:
Length: 440 feet
Width: 80 feet
Depth (Pavilion end): 2.75 - 3.0 feet
Depth (Lily Pond end): 3.25 - 3.5 feet
Water Volume: 960,000 gallons of fresh water.
